Report March 14, 2023 The 5th kindergarten project is realized, quickly and with great satisfaction Thanks to the hardworking and large brick laying team of eight workers, it was possible to finish the foundation for both kindergarten buildings, the toilets fille/garçon, as well as the small office with a storage room in only 10 days. Even though work was done at such a fast pace, good quality must be standard. Each step of the work is inspected. I always follow this so important phase of the foundation with particularly watchful eyes and I was very satisfied. Likewise, the various competent people on the construction committee that was set up especially for our project are downright enthusiastic. In addition, the tireless commitment of the kindergarten director, M. Doukouré, and his team has ensured that the various works all around have been completed in short order. This is also an important part of the construction process, so that the masons can work quickly. (Preparation of the building site, filling of the foundation, supplying of the bricks, etc.). Thus, the team was able to work without interruption and has currently raised the walls in just two days. The walls of various buildings are already done up to the windows . My special project: Play program with the children in class Prior to the start of construction, I was able to introduce another "play program" in one of the existing kindergartens, as I had already started last year. The goal is for the children to be able to occupy themselves in a variety of ways at the various playgrounds and to be able to live out their interests and talents. It is always amazing how quickly the children develop in this process and how much they enjoy coming to the kindergarten classes. One can see the enthusiasm shine in their eyes. |

Bulletin 16. February 2023 While planning the current construction project of the very much needed extra classroom and toilets at Ecole 5, I was also able to add some color to the building at Ecole 7 that I built last year. I always wait until after the rainy season to do this. As with all our kindergartens, the kindergarten room of the "moyenne section" (middle class) got painted green, while the "big kids" are now surrounded by a soft purple color. For me personally, it is always the highlight of every kindergarten construction project when the buildings present themselves in color. My joy grows with the visible enthusiasm of the teachers, children and their parents. At the same time, I have once again started with the further training for teachers and the subsequent "play program" in their kindergartens. This means that I accompany the lessons during two full weeks until the different playgrounds are familiar to the children -and teachers-. It is the same support that was given last year for varied teaching of lessons, that sadly I could not do in all 10 kindergartens in Sedhiou since there just wasn’t enough time. |

Arrival in Sedhiou The journey to my second home was truly an odyssey this time. Delayed in Zurich, I was already stranded in Lisbon and thus also missed the domestic flight to the south. The usual one-day trip turned into a four-day journey until I finally arrived home in Sedhiou. But already on the first day, exhaustion had given way to a thirst for action. Together with my project partner Elhadji Dieme, I visited the intended building site. The existing kindergarten currently has two classrooms, a building for the third grade, which is common here, is missing, as well as toilets. We discussed the most important points of preparation, especially the establishment of a building commission, which will support us in various works. This cooperation is very important for us. For the realization of our projects the interest and commitment of the population to the building project is very important. A special joy for me is of course the reunion with the children. I really missed the beaming faces when I enter the kindergartens, the childrens enthusiasm during the common activities and games. |
