16,000 Pairs of Shoes
Zinguinchor, April 2013. A special Event
„Un, deux, trois, quattre....." I was met by a curious sight. I encountered Salif Kanouté, the manager of Federation Dimbaya and several of his employees in the middle of hundreds of cardboard boxes. They were unpacking black shoes, counting them and sorting them by size. Tomorrow, these shoes will be brought to a school with lots of students.
I was invited to accompany the people who were responsible for this official occasion. And as we were on the way, we wondered how many times these shoes had appeared to Salif in his dreams.
It was a very special moment. Child after child tried on shoes until he or she found the perfect size. A wonderful experience! Shining eyes, proud children, what happiness.
Child Fund, which is largely supported by the Federation Dimbaya, donated 16,000 pairs of shoes to the region of Ziguinchor. Many children have to walk long distances to school. Most of them had no shoes at all and some had to walk the whole distance with flip-flops.

Report of April 2014
During my last stay in Senegal I visited some local authorities from the village Niaguis together with Salif Kanouté from the organisation Federation Dimbaya. The school director was very happy to see me again. He was very thankful, that I, together with the newly founded association are supporting a kindergarten in their community. Our first meeting with the mayor was very cordial and friendly. In addition to words of sincere thanks and also of great recognition for our work in Switzerland, he also showed great confidence and trust in our discussion about the kindergarten. After the last details were cleared, we drove to the existing school together with all the people responsible. The school is also supervised by the Federation Dimbaya. The grounds have enough free space for the kindergarten as well as a playground.
Together we looked at the future building site and I received a definite concent for this ideal place to build the kindergarten. Our first funds are going to an architect, who is currently working on a blueprint.
Through the Federation Dimbaya we were able to put together a responsible working group with a project manager. The people responsible will accompany and monitor the realization of the kindergarten. Therefore we are certain, that everything will go according to plan, even though I cannot be there at the time.
