News from Senegal, April 2021
Switzerland: The Decision is MadeWith a heavy heart, I decided to postpone my trip back to Senegal until after the rainy season ends. The current circumstances as well as the Corona measures in this country would have hindered our projects too much. At the same time, my extended stay in Switzerland is proving to be worth its while considering the various tasks of the association, as well as all of the planned activities from the previous year, that could not be carried out due to the circumstances. Senegal: No Hold-up, Thanks to our Local Project LeaderNevertheless, the different jobs of our project in Senegal continued under the leadership of my project partner, Elhadji Dieme. So, despite the difficulties, all the finishing touches of our biggest kindergarten project from 2020 could be completed. The last classroom was painted this week and presents itself in green. |

Now Elhadji is busy with further clarifications regarding some future projects. That is the reason why he visits existing kindergartens in Sédhiou and in various remote villages. In meetings with the respective school directors he informs himself about the local situation of education of preschool children. At the same time, Elhadji gave away a large number of balls to each kindergarten class, which truly caused a lot of excitement among the teachers and children. They often have no toys or game material at all. |

Senegal In order to advance the preliminary clarifications of further kindergarten projects, Elhadji Dieme is currently coordinating the necessary information and discussions, which have to be made in advance. Even though we had already gained a first insight in many places together, regular contact and further discussions with the responsible people are necessary. It is not only important for us to get the whole picture of the situation regarding the lack of kindergarten buildings, but also to get a feeling of how much interest and initiative will be forthcoming from the resident population itself in the future education of the children. The first possible projects are already taking form, so that after the rainy season and my return to Senegal in October, we will be able to erect the first kindergarten buildings as soon as possible. Switzerland I can finally resume the planning of various events that could not take place in 2020 because of Corona. There will probably be events in the area of children's activities, (play festivals, story-tellling-tent), benefit concerts and my already famous Africa market. Thank you already in advance for your interest and your visits to our events. You will find more information on our website. Every event will be published there. Greetings Marielle Furter
