The Situation with Corona is Causing Delays and Complicating the Circumstances.

Elhadji is patiently taking care of the finishing touches of our last classroom in Senegal. Besides Corona, other circumstances, including a lack of cement, have caused a delay of two months. So right now, it is highly questionable whether we will be able to construct another new building before the rainy season in June, or if we will have to postpone the start of construction until October 2021. Our first priority is, that the quality of the building must be guaranteed. An efficient progress is therefore important.

A Difficult Desicion

In addition to the closed borders in Senegal, the numbers of Corona infections are also rapidly increasing, which complicates the situation in many areas and currently points to an unforeseeable future. Deliveries of material are delayed, schools may be closed again and no one knows how the situation with flights for my return to Senegal will develop. So I have to gauge well whether it makes sense and whether it is responsible to travel to Senegal in the current situation. Making this decision will be very difficult for me. On the one hand, I am drawn and motivated to start the construction of a new kindergarten immediately, on the other hand, I cannot and do not want to force it.

I will continue to monitor the situation in Senegal until the end of February in order to make a final decision. If I really have to postpone my return trip, we would start the next construction project in October 2021. But with our project partner Elhadji Dieme on site in Senegal we can push ahead with the planning from here, so that we can start immediately after the rainy season.
