An incredible Day of Solidarity from the School in Mellingen
The 15. Day-of-Solidarity from the School in Mellingen was in favor of kindergardens4senegal. About two hundred 1st and 3rd year students of the Bezirksschule (Highschool) participated in this event. The students had to look for a paying job for the Solidarity-Day on their own. Those who couldn't find a job, did some work within their family, e.g. washed windows for a grandmother or helped their mother. Others went to work with our janitor, who kept them busy for the day. It was a great experience for the students, because they did some completely different kinds of work for a day, and most of them even enjoyed it. They also noticed, how hard washing windows or working in the garden can be. |

Mrs. Viola Jori organized the Solidarity-Day. She presented different organizations to the teachers, who then got to choose which organization they wanted to support. Then the students got some information about the chosen organization, so they could get an idea or what kindergardens4senegal was all about an what kind of work they do. The students also received a paper with information for their future employers, so they would know, what the children were working for. Every student hat to give their teachers a conformation note from their employer that said where the student had worked, what kind of work they had done and how much they had earned. The organizing of this event was time consuming. Mrs. Jori had to make sure, that the students got all the information on time, different organizations needed to be notified and information material needed to get organized, as well as many other odd jobs. "It was really worth the effort, because these sums are needed by many small organizations, as well as the solidary approval. In the end we were only a drop in the bucket, but we were a drop :-) ", Mrs. Jori said with conviction. I got invited to Mellingen on 30. June for the handing over of the check. It was a very moving moment, when I received a check worth Fr. 10'500.- in front of about 200 students and their teachers. My small thankt you speech could hardly express how moved and thankful I was. So many young people commited themselves and earned lots of money, so others that really need it can be helped. This can not be taken for granted and deserves deep respect. The donated money is needed for the sustainability of the kindergarten in Niaguis and also for furniture in a further kindergarten in Senegal. With deep gratitude |
