Lego Report - Volunteer Project June 22
The symbolically built kindergarten with sold Lego bricks could be realized in Senegal. Finally, after a longer interruption due to Corona, I could finally build the real classrooms, which were financed thanks to the income from the Lego stand, as well as with some other donations. Accompanying the lessons shows great success. After a further training of the teachers from the kindergarten, I accompanied the lessons daily for two weeks to help the children to get to know the playgrounds. The little ones learn quickly and I am always surprised what an incredible development and enthusiasm I could observe after a short time. |

The New Kindergarten Building Do you remember? Maybe you bought some Lego bricks, some windows or the door yourself and so helped to build the symbolic kindergarten? I am very happy to inform you that a few months before the rainy season I was able to complete two classrooms. The children, who were housed in shabby and much too small bamboo mat provisional arrangements, were already able to move before the end of the school year and could be taught in the spacious rooms. This was the first time that I had experienced what it means to teach up to 50 children in a 12 m2 small hut at this school. The sand blew into my eyes, the sun burned through all the cracks, and every now and then, a snake was discovered. So, it was a special pleasure for me to see the construction work for the spacious and safe rooms progressing there before my eyes. An additional building for a third classroom, as well as a toilet and a small office with storage room is planned, so that another complete kindergarten for the three, four and five year-old children can be realized. Playful learning environment, pedagogical cooperation in many kindergartens It was also a particularly nice experience when, after an absence of more than a year, that I was so joyfully awaited. I had to stop the "Play Program" with the goal of providing a diverse and attractive learning environment for teachers and children, in March 2020. (Due to Corona - closure of the schools until the end of the year). However, I was able to pick up again immediately after my return. The interest has even grown noticeably. Certainly, also because my project partner stayed in contact with the inspectors and teachers and had many helpful conversations for the planning beforehand. The interest was great, so that I was able to introduce various toys and playgrounds in existing kindergartens. In addition to careful handling of the materials, the focus was also on social behavior and following rules. The children were visibly enthusiastic and their joy from playing shone from their eyes. From the first day on, a cheerfulness spread, which I unfortunately often miss in traditional kindergartens. It was heartwarming all around. A 3-year-old boy, who often refused kindergarten, now suddenly woke his father at 6 a.m.. "Dad, get up, I have to go, Tata Marielle is waiting for me," I was told by the smiling father. |
