Finally, I am Back in Senegal

I am especially happy to be home in my second home country after being gone for more than a year. It is also true though, that the long absence has also proved to be a valuable experience. It is very good to see that the kindergartens are functioning well even without my presence, and that both the construction work as well as our research for future projects have been continued without me being on site. This is thanks to the intensive and good cooperation with my project partner, Elhadji Dieme. Now that the Corona situation in Senegal has calmed down, I am very happy to be back on site for the planned kindergarten projects. The cooperation in teaching is spreading to other kindergartens and new kindergarten buildings are to be built. Therefore we still rely on donations. |

New Kindergarten Buildings Our research shows, that most of the already existing kindergartens in Sehiou do not have enough class rooms. Small dark rooms, often without windows, and sometimes constructed only with bamboo mats serve as makeshift solutions as class rooms. At the same time, many of the surrounding villages lack a kindergarten altogether. In the next few weeks it will become clear where we will start the next construction at the beginning of 2022. Participation in Teaching The ever-growing interest of the inspectors in Sédhiou in my advanced training and the subsequent playful form of education, further encouraged me in my plans in the pedagogical field. Unfortunately, the closure of the schools in March 2020 abruptly broke off this collaboration. But the contact has remained and even some new doors have been opened for further cooperation. Contact with the Minister of Education, Mme Cissokho In the meantime, I was able to have several telephone conversations with the Minister of Education. (She visited Sedhiou in July 2021. See July report). Further contacts with responsible persons in the field of education in the Dakar headquarters are developing and support my activities in the pedagogical field. The Bright Eyes and Happy Faces of the Children confirm that I am on the right Track. My personal observations and experiences have led to the conclusion that a change in the way we deal with and how we teach the children, as well supporting their development, is at least as important as building new kindergartens. It is amazing how the little ones quickly behave and develop in a completely different way. They are curious and interested and they take part in the activities with great joy. Their self-confidence grows, and they are proud of their accomplishments and of the things they have learned. |
