When I visited the children for the first time after the long school holidays, the joy of seeing each other again was evident and especially heartfelt on both sides. This made my motivation and confidence skyrocket. The first school year was accompanied by many turbulent times, difficult incidents and some unforeseen surprises, which sapped my strength and nerves. I am all the more pleased that everything has now turned 180 degrees. Until now, my project partner Elhadji and I are experiencing the exact opposite this year. The three classes are complete (with almost 30 children per class) and the kindergarten is filled with a very lively and cheerful hustle and bustle.

Right after arriving in Sédhiou, I was overwhelmed by the interest in the kindergarten and the teaching. I also appreciate the pleasant cooperation and mutual recognition of our partnership. We have meetings almost daily with our teachers, inspectors, the locals and the kindergarten commission. Everyone involved is highly committed and actions follow our constructive discussions.

This is not least thanks to the new director, who has shown a special initiative for the implementation of everything that will move the kindergarten forward. The children will benefit greatly from this. So together with the inspector there will be an additional training and introduction on the subject “games, toys and playing materials” for the kindergarten teachers. This will help our toys and games to get used more often. And the children themselves... well, their shining eyes say everything. Their enthusiasm is immediately apparent during each of my visits. They show a huge portion of curiosity and interest in the various games and activities. I am therefore more confident than ever that this year, with this joint commitment, we will succeed in creating a versatile learning environment with lots of games and fun for the children.
